A trained Gerontologist from the University of Southern California, Kate draws on a strong background in psychology and social economics research and training. Kate is currently placemaking for the first university-based retirement community (UBRC) in NY, Broadview at Purchase College opening in the Fall 2023. Broadview is an Independent Living Community with 220 senior apartments and villas designed around a purpose centered 8000 SF Learning Commons. Kate’s role with Broadview is focused on creating intergenerational culture and resident lifestyle development.

Abate is a wellness professional with experience as a certified personal trainer, nutrition coach, crisis counselor, yoga teacher (RYT-500), and an accomplished Olympian athlete in bodybuilding. Prior to her work in Gerontology, Abate ran a wellness business in Los Angeles for ten years focused on the implementation of behavioral and environmental health, nutrition, and fitness. Kate ’s research focuses on the senior housing Industry with an emphasis on resident trends, culture, and community development. Utilizing non-medical services and support, she helps communities build vitality by incentivizing health-forward and pro-social behavior through environmental design, wellness, and creative engagement. Kate’s strength lies in bringing creative solutions to unique problems with underperforming assets and implementing a precise development process for passion-soaked, demographically curated wellness curriculum which elevates both the resident and staff experience.
